Kindergarten is the perfect time to dive into American History! From the Native Americans who first dwelt in the land, to the heroic Patriots who fought for liberty, from the pioneers who traveled from the towns and cities into the unknown, to legends about such "tall" heroes as Pecos Bill and John Henry. These stories will thrill and inspire your student.This program will expose your child to important Americans and their stories and will provide a great foundation for more in-depth studies in future years. We will also be covering 1-2 states per week so every student is studying and notebooking our United States as well. Each week your student is exposed to stories with review questions designed to develop narration skills, optional copy work, weekly hands-on crafts and activities related to the time period. Phonics and Language:
Exposure to great literature will continue as our Kindergarten classes revisit the 100 best picture books over the past century and focus on the at least 1 chapter book a month together as a class. Along with this, kindergarten will begin phonics education. Recognition of name, sound, and picture of long and short vowels and consonants. Sounding of blends, one- and two-vowel words, and words with special sounds. Beginning phonics rules and special sounds. Reading of sentences and stories from thirteen books containing one-and two- vowel words. To build on the previous year, the following will be added:
Scope and Sequence of Language: Recognition of sentences by capital letters and periods, rhyming words, opposites, and thirteen poems will be committed to memory. In addition to that, students will learn to:
Writing skills, Penmanship:
As your student continues their writing instruction, he or she will achieve: Good writing posture; proper pencil hold; slanted paper position, careful writing, correct letter placement and formation, good overall appearance, good control of fine motor skills, writing their first name, consistent slant of letters and words Correctly write:12 capital letters, all lowercase letters, blends and one- and two-vowel words, sentences, and smooth connections between more difficult letter blends. Your student will also be able to follow step-by-step instruction using key strokes, trace, smile, wave, loop, oval, mountain and complete guided as well as independent practice writing worksheets |
